Unlike most people's strained relationship with their in-laws, I truly loved my father-in-law. He was a very special man, and will be sorely missed. I don't think anyone can be prepared for what it feels like to lose a parent, and I can only imagine how my husband must feel. It certainly made me call all of my parents yesterday, and just let them know how much I love them. After all, nobody is guaranteed another tomorrow.
Bryan is on his way home from Afghanistan as we speak. We will be leaving for Spokane together as soon as he gets to Fayetteville. And, we should be in Alaska for the last part of his emergency leave by a week from Sunday. Take care of yourselves, and I'll be in touch soon.
